While taut situations define the series, what stands out in this commercial-free opener are the telltale tensions among the personalities. The president's impatient brother is his new chief of staff; a more mature Kim Bauer (Elisha Cuthbert) is a new CTU techie who has a strangely testy co-worker; and lone ranger Jack is now paired with an edgy new partner, Chase . Jack had spent the last year infiltrating Salazar's drug ring in order to bring down the terrorists associated with it. Annicon is insistent that they not sweeten the deal. Salazar calls out to Jack from the two-way mirror.
2:00-3:00 P.M.Secrets Revealed / season 3 - episode 2 Written by: Jeffrey Bell Directed by: Bill Norton Tony (Carlos Bernard) and his team brief White House Chief of Staff Wayne Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) on the terrorist's demands. Dr. Macer from National Health Services is also on the teleconference, and she conveys the severity of the situation. This leaked virus is a strain that Health Services has never seen before because it has been engineered to kill ten times faster. Wayne reiterates the President's policy of standing firm against terrorists. Wayne knows that Palmer will not free Salazar, regardless of the threat. Kim (Elisha Cuthbert) calls her father to remind him that she needs to speak to him about something personal. Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) promises he will come down to see her when he has more time. Chase notices that Jack did not shoot up the heroin.
3:00-4:00 P.M.Field Agents / season 3 - episode 3 Written by: Tim Minear Directed by: Fred Kelle As Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) is waiting for Dr Nicole Duncan, the head of Health Services for Los Angeles, in his car on the side of the freeway, he takes out the heroin kit because he needs a fix. He ties up his arm and fills the syringe with the drug, but before he can inject himself, a squad of Health Services vans pulls up. Jack hurriedly puts the paraphernalia away. Dr Duncan gets into the passenger seat and greets him. Jack drives off with the Health Services Hazmat team in tow. Dr Duncan says that Dr Macer's estimates are off. She believes that the virus would infect 20% of the population in one week and that it is more deadly than originally thought. Dr Duncan notices that Jack is perspiring, but he fends it off as being overworked.
4:00-5:00 P.M.Last Assignment / season 3 - episode 4 Written by: Scott Murphy Directed by: James A. Contner CTU receives instructions for Salazar's delivery; Kyle and Linda get a glimpse of what they're into; Chase disobeys Jack (Kiefer Sutherland), who makes a report, and a suggestion, to the president. Michelle and her team listen to the second phone call which has instructions for releasing Salazar. Unbeknownst to the CTU workers, it is Gael's filtered voice on the message. Whoever is sending these messages is controlling Kyle Singer's movements and they only have two hours to find him.Linda calls Kyle from the mall parking lot. She can't get through because security is blocking the entrance.
5:00-6:00 P.M.Singer Wanted / season 3 - episode 5 Written by: Mere Smith Directed by: Marita Grabiak Anne waits backstage with President Palmer before he is to go on for the debate. She apologizes about him having to deal with her ex-husband Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) kisses her forehead before going on stage.A full riot is in effect at the federal holding facility as the prisoners take over the outer cell block. Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) removes the handcuffs on Salazar. Two guards approach, Jack and Salazar knock them down. They put on the guards' uniforms. The warden tries to regain control of his prison, but Chase tells him that Jack and Salazar need to be found first. To convince the warden of the severity, Chase is forced to tell him about the virus threat. The warden then redirects his guards to follow Chase's command. Michelle calls to inquire about the prison riot, and Chase says that Jack set it off in order to free Salazar.
6:00-7:00 P.M.Confusion / season 3 - episode 6 Written by: Jeffrey Bell & Tim Minear Directed by: David Grossman Chase phones Chloe from the road. She sends him radar maps following the chopper that show Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) is flying toward downtown Los Angeles. Jack knows that he can't be shot down over a populated area. Chase asks Chloe to try to get through on the radio to tell Jack thatthey already have Kyle Singer and the virus. District Director Ryan Chappelle assumes control of CTU in Tony's (Carlos Bernard) absence. He calls a Major Blanchard to find out when the military will intercept Jack's helicopter. Chappelle instructs Blanchard to shoot Jack down before he reaches the downtown area. Chappelle has Michelle round up Adam and the staff for a briefing. Chloe apologizes to Kim (Elisha Cuthbert) for yelling at her in Jack's office.
7:00-8:00 P.M.Mind Bender / season 3 - episode 7 Written by: David Greenwalt Directed by: Turi Meyer Michelle asks Gael to take over for her; Chase gets help in disobeying Chappelle to pursue a lead on Jack's (Kiefer Sutherland) location, where Ramon grows impatient; Anne is contacted by her ex-spouse. Gael phones Michelle from the IT room to let her know that he has been helping Kim (Elisha Cuthbert) with her work. Michelle tells him to go to the briefing since he will be taking over. Gael tells Kim that he has her monitored from a handheld device. As he leaves, he changes the access code on the door. Chappelle tells the staff that Kyle Singer is not carrying the virus.
8:00-9:00 P.M.Explanations / season 3 - episode 8 Written by: Jeffrey Bell Directed by: Skip Schoolnik Tony (Carlos Bernard) calls the President and tells him that everything from the infected body to Remone Salazar's prison break was part of an elaborate sting operation. Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) had pre-recorded a video message to further clarify. He says that the Salazars were never in control of a virus. Jack had deliberately lied in order to weed out a dangerous group of Ukrainian scientists who are trying to sell a weaponized virus on the open market. Jack offered the Salazars up as buyers, and then convinced the Salazars that he had switched sides by springing Remone from prison. He, Tony and Gael kept this a secret to protect the President from exposure.
9:00-10:00 P.M.The Return II / season 3 - episode 9 Written by: Tim Minear Directed by: Tim Minear Michael changes the arrangements for the sale; Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) gets an ally; Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) is summoned by an important supporter; Tony's (Carlos Bernard) competence is questioned. At CTU, Tony and his team try to re-establish a signal with Jack's transponder. They are unsure whether Jack's cover was blown or not. Tony assigns Kim (Elisha Cuthbert) to a task, but when she asks for a major detail he says that he just told her. He didn’t. Kim decides not to argue and gets to work. Salazar's trucks stop at an abandoned farmhouse. Seeing that they have not been followed, Salazar realizes that Chase must have come on his own in order to save Jack but he will now die for his efforts.
10:00-11:00 P.M.Convincing / season 3 - episode 10 Directed by: Fred Keller Written by: David H. Goodman Gael gets a call from Hector and they set up the trace. Hector tells Gael that they lost the virus to Nina Myers (Sarah Clarke) and that they want to get it back. He puts Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) on the phone, and Jack provides Gael with Amador's cell phone number to track his location. Hector says that they have Chase in custody, but they want to know if he brought backup with him. Gael lies about knowing this, and suggests that they keep him alive to be safe. The two phones are tracked, and Tony (Carlos Bernard) orders CTU commandos to both positions. Tony gives Kim (Elisha Cuthbert) the news that both Jack and Chase are alive. He doesn't reveal that Nina is there too.
11:00 P.M.-12:00 A.M.Brotherly Love / season 3 - episode 11 Written by: Mere Smith Directed by: Michael A. Grossman Playing one of TV's most beguiling villains, Penny Johnson Jerald returns as the president's ex-wife Sherry Palmer (Dennis Haysbert), who, along with nasty Nina Myers (Sarah Clarke), who recently reappeared, gives 24 a doubly devilish blast from the past. While Nina tests Jack's (Kiefer Sutherland) resolve in Mexico, Sherry is summoned by Palmer to do what she does best: fight dirty. She goes up against one of the president's supporters, who's now a political threat, and she gets quick results. Meanwhile, dissension between the Salazars threatens Jack's operation.
12:00-1:00 A.M.The Big One / season 3 - episode 12 Written by: Scott Murphy Directed by: Bill Norton Hector is still alive and lying in a pool of his own blood. Remone tells him that he should have listened. It would be too risky to take his brother to a hospital so Remone shoots him again to end his suffering. Nine tells Remone again that Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) is still working for CTU but he still doesn’t believe her. Remone and Jack lead the team to the cars. Sherry tells Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) that she’s leaving the office to meet someone who has information on Milliken.Tony (Carlos Bernard) briefs the CTU staff on the Posta Mita location where the virus transfer will take place. He tells them that Chase will make visual confirmation because Jack won’t be able to transmit. Chloe will be in charge of communicating with Chase. On the hill at Posta Mite chase sets up a parabolic dish to pick up the sound.
1:00-2:00 A.M.Viruses / season 3 - episode 13 Written by: Joss Whedon Directed by: Joss Whedon Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) is alone in the bushes looking for Nina (Sarah Clarke). He has his gun drawn. Chase is elsewhere doing the same thing. He sees a light and radios to Jack asking if the light is him. Jack answers no so Chase says he will check it out. Jack warns him to be careful. Chase goes around a corner and he finds the light. There is a dead soldier with the flashlight sitting on top of him. Nina appears and tells Chase to 'stop right there.' She tells Chase to drop his gun and he does. She instructs him to put his hands on his head. Nina asks if he is on a two-way with Jack, which Chase confirms. She tells him to tell Jack that he is code six. Chase tells her that he going to reach into his bag and pull out the two-way. Nina tells him slowly. Chase radios Jack who answers 'yeah'.
2:00-3:00 A.M.Revenge / season 3 - episode 14 Written by: Tim Minear and Jeffrey Bell Directed by: Tim Minear A man from Division approaches Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) and introduces himself as Mike. Jack tells him right away that he doesn't want Nina (Sarah Clarke) out of his sight. Mike is prepared for this it seems and says they have transportation waiting he can ride with her. A cell phone rings on one of the agents and it is given to Chase it is Chloe from CTU. Chase tells Jack that he'll take another car and he can go ahead, Chloe is uptight and quickly tells Chase that everyone at CTU knows about Angela. She tells him that the babysitter flaked out with a family emergency and she had to have Angela dropped off at CTU. Chase doesn't seem to like that she is at CTU but Chloe tells him that she went through a lot for this already.
3:00-4:00 A.M.Location / season 3 - episode 15 Written by: Mere Smith Directed by: James A. Contner The agents at CTU are starting to get up and move from their stations. Tony (Carlos Bernard) tells Michelle that Nina Myers (Sarah Clarke) is dead, Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) shot her. Tony tells her that Chapelle is on his way to talk to Jack. Michelle asks if it was justified and Tony tells her that Jack wouldn't risk the entire operation just to get vengeance. Michelle is skeptical and asks if he is sure about that. Tony doesn't answer. Chapelle comes into the scene of the shooting and Jack is handing his gun over to another agent. Chapelle instructs them to secure the area and have the surveillance tapes pulled. Jack is now talking to Kim (Elisha Cuthbert) but Chapelle wants to talk to him. Jack tries to ask for a minute but Chapelle insists now. Jack tells him he will be right back and Chapelle starts right away asking 'what the hell happened?' Jack says that she tried to escape and pulled her gun, he pulled his in self defense.
4:00-5:00 A.M.Blown Wide Open / season 3 - episode 16 Written by: David Greenwalt Directed by: Terrence O'Hara Michelle is questioning Marcus Alvers. She wants to know how much of the virus was released and he assures her that it was enough to kill everyone in the building. Michelle asks if there is any anywhere else and he says it doesn't matter, they are all going to die. She again asks if there are any others and he responds that his assignment was the hotel. She concludes that there are others and he confirms that there are 11 others but he doesn't know where they are. Michelle's phone rings and as she goes to answer it she tells another agent to keep an eye on Alvers.
5:00-6:00 A.M.Old Ties Revisited / season 3 - episode 17 Written by: Jeffrey Bell Directed by: Turie Meyer After Michelle kills the man trying to escape the hotel she orders the other guests to stay calm. A SWAT team wearing gasmasks surrounds the hotel to stop anyone else from trying to escape, when they enter people start to panic even more. Michelle fires her gun into the air to get people attention. She then uses the hotel intercom to tell people that an infectious substance has been released in the building and that anyone who attempts to leave will be stopped, even it if means using lethal force. The guests start to go back to their rooms and the dead mans wife lashes out at Michelle.
6:00-7:00 A.M.Unbelievable / season 3 - episode 18 Written by: David H. Goodman Directed by: David Grossman Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) tells Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) that Saunders wants Chappelle's body delivered to the downtown train yard. Jack wonders why Saunders wants Chappelle dead, but he knows that the President has no other choice. Jack hopes to find Saunders before they are forced to kill Chappelle. Jack orders Chloe to transfer the search for Saunders from District back to CTU. She reluctantly agrees to hide this from Chappelle. Tony (Carlos Bernard) has the suicide capsules delivered to Michelle at the hotel. She breaks down over the phone. Tony wishes he could be there with her. Jack asks Tony whether Chappelle and Saunders have any connection because Saunders just demanded that the President kill him. Tony downgrades Chappelle's security clearance in case he becomes a risk. They decide not to tell anybody else.
7:00-8:00 A.M.The Swap / season 3 - episode 19 Written by: David Fury Directed by: Martika Grabiak Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) is standing over Chapelle's body gun still at his side. The black van drives over to them and as soon as it approaches Jack moves around to the front of Chapelle's body and brings his gun up aiming at the van. Inside the van another man also draws his gun and points it at Jack. No one fires as three of the men get out of the van. They are completely dressed in black and have masks covering their faces. The first one keeps his gun on Jack and one of the others pulls out a small black device and scans Chapelle's body from the feet to his head and back. When he is satisfied he says that there is no tracker. Two of them pick up the body and head towards the van. The last one with his gun still out tells Jack through an accent that if he tries to follow them Saunders will release the virus.
8:00-9:00 A.M.Red Herring / season 3 - episode 20 Directed by: Tim Minear Written by: Jeffrey Bell President Palmer is told that Saunders's daughter has been captured and that CTU wants to use her to find him, although he is supposed to provide Saunders a list of foreign spies in 15 minutes. Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) wants to wait until Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) comes up with something before he hands over that list. Jack tries to convince Jane that her father is a terrorist fighting against the government. He tells her that he once worked with Saunders, and he knows he is a good man but something has happened to him. Saunders is informed that CTU is trying to access his location from the website address, but they will not be able to get though.
9:00-10:00 A.M.Grey Area / season 3 - episode 21 Written by: Tim Minear Directed by: Tim Minear There are agents all over the place outside the building that Saunders is believed to be in. Agents shoot through the windows and smoke becomes visible. Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) says to send the agents in and Chase relays that message as well. Jack waits outside as Chase follows the other agents into the building, putting a gas mask on. Jack sees Agent Baker running nearby and calls him over. He wants to know why he doesn't have his team on the south exit and Baker explains that CTU said that Jack needed him out front. Jack asks why and Baker explains that there was a blind spot in the front of the building.
10:00-11:00 A.M.The Beginning / season 3 - episode 22 Written by: David Greenwalt Directed by: David Greenwalt Tony (Carlos Bernard) is driving with Jane in the passenger seat. He sees that he must stop at a red light, squeals the tires and says 'Son of a bitch.' She sees that he is agitated and asks if he is okay. She says that he never explained why they were transporting her. Tony says he told her but she doesn't think that makes sense. He snaps that he doesn't have time to explain it. Saunders tells his thug that they have to be ready to move when they are ready with his daughter. He leaves the thug outside the room where Michelle is. She takes the chance to bang on the glass and yell to him that there are 800 people dead or dying at the Chandler Plaza hotel right now because Saunders released a virus into the ventilation system.
11:00-12:00 P.M.Searching / season 3 - episode 23 Written by: David Greenwalt Directed by: David Greenwalt At the Sixth Street Bridge, Saunders tells Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) that the eleven other vials containing the virus are being held by men who have been instructed to release the virus at noon and they cannot be stopped. Saunders says he will give Jack their locations only if he receives a guarantee from President Palmer that he will be allowed to escape freely to North Africa. CTU agents arrest Tony (Carlos Bernard). Jack promises that he will do what he can for him. Jack asks Jane Saunders to try to convince her father to stop the virus. Jane approaches Saunders and begs him to prevent people dying from the virus. Saunders knows CTU is trying to manipulate him, and he explains to Jane that what he is doing will better the world. Saunders will not give up, and Jane breaks down in tears.
12:00-1:00 P.M.The Package / season 3 - episode 24 Written by: David Greenwalt Directed by: David Greenwalt The subway station is buzzing with activity from the agents. Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) radios Michelle and says that they lost Rabins, the carrier of the virus. He dumped the tracker but still has the virus. They are sweeping the station now and are locking it down completely. They are going to set up check points for every person. Saunders still hasn't completed the sketch of the man and they need him to make the ID on Rabins. Jack asks her to move Saunders from holding to Chloe's station and they will upload the images for Saunders to pick out Rabins. Michelle finishes with Jack and is approached by an agent named Jessie. He tells Michelle that Gael's wife Theresa is there. She tells him to send her in. Tony (Carlos Bernard), still in custody, is being questioned by Rae Plachecki. She is trying to clarify what he was doing with Saunders. report error and omissions here
