The fourth season episode guide

The Hour of the Wolf / season 4 - episode 1
Written by: J. Michael Straczynski
Directed by: David J. Eagle
Music by: Christopher Franke
A week after Sheridan's fateful voyage to Z'ha'Dum, the League of Non-Aligned Worlds is fragmenting as its member races plan to strengthen their homeworlds' defenses in fear of Shadow retaliation. Delenn and Ivanova are taking the loss of Sheridan hard in their own ways, but no one seems to remember Garibaldi's disappearance aside from G'Kar and Zack Allan; G'Kar vows to find Garibaldi.

What Ever Happened to Mr. Garibaldi? / season 4 - episode 2
Written by: J. Michael Straczynski
Directed by: Kevin James Dobson
Music by: Christopher Franke
Sheridan experiences strange visions of being questioned by something unknown. He is still in an unspecified underground location on Z'ha'Dum, with the mysterious alien called Lorien, who proves beyond most reasonable doubts that Sheridan is dead...maybe. G'Kar has left the station to investigate a possible lead into Garibaldi's whereabouts, and Marcus follows him quietly, since G'Kar's amnesty ends at the hull of Babylon 5.

The Summoning / season 4 - episode 3
Written by: J. Michael Straczynski
Directed by: John McPherson
Music by: Christopher Franke
Ivanova and Marcus set out aboard a ship from the White Star fleet to make contact with more of the First Ones, seeking more allies to participate in a final attack on Z'ha'Dum. The information G'Kar acquired about the possible whereabouts of Garibaldi arrives, and Zack Allen leads a fighter group to recover him.

Falling Towards Apotheosis / season 4 - episode 4
Written by: J. Michael Straczynski
Directed by: David J. Eagle
Music by: Christopher Franke
Worlds continue to fall to the might of the Vorlon fleet, but on the station, Garibaldi grows increasingly frustrated. Sheridan's return has generated an almost messianic fervor, yet Garibaldi's return has been met with concern and barely-veiled suspicion. On Centauri Prime, Morden comes to Londo and asks for a Centauri fleet to protect the Shadow presence on the Centauri homeworld.

The Long Night / season 4 - episode 5
Written by: J. Michael Straczynski
Directed by: John Lafia
Music by: Christopher Franke
As Shadow and Vorlon forces rampage through the galaxy, destroying virtually all that they encounter, Sheridan assembles the largest fleet in the history of the younger races to take them on. Many of the members of the League of Non-Aligned Worlds are skeptical of their chances of success, but Sheridan insists that the offensive must proceed despite the fact that it is barely understood how the Shadows' and Vorlons' planet-killers work.

Into the Fire / season 4 - episode 6
Written by: J. Michael Straczynski
Directed by: Kevin James Dobson
Music by: Christopher Franke
Ivanova waits impatiently as she ferries Lorien around space in one of the White Star ships, attempting to make contact with more of the First Ones before the fateful convergence of the Shadow and Vorlon fleets. In the meantime, Sheridan with the rest of the White Star fleet in tow is busy attacking both sides' targets to make sure that the ancient enemies will accept the invitation to face each other at Corianis 3.

Epiphanies / season 4 - episode 7
Written by: J. Michael Straczynski
Directed by: John C. Flinn III
Music by: Christopher Franke
In the wake of the War, President Clark panics because his Shadow allies are no longer there to help him, and sets wheels into motion to bring down those responsible for the Shadows' departure - Sheridan and the others aboard B5. Bester learns of a plan to tarnish B5's public image by having a squadron of Psi Corps' Black Omega fighters attack the blockade at the nearest Earth outpost to the station, claiming to be from Babylon 5, and travels to the station to warn Sheridan.

The Illusion of Truth / season 4 - episode 8
Written by: J. Michael Straczynski
Directed by: Stephen Furst
Music by: Christopher Franke
Sheridan is more than just a little bit dismayed when an ISN camera crew and reporter Dan Randall come aboard to do a special report on Babylon 5. Since ISN's last hatchet job on the station took place two years ago before Clark's lust for power became public knowledge, Sheridan can only assume that any new report - especially since Clark's military takeover of the media - will be much worse.

Atonement / season 4 - episode 9
Written by: J. Michael Straczynski
Directed by: Tony Dow
Music by: Christopher Franke
A Minbari ship arrives at B5 while Zack needles Minbari tailors about adjusting Garibaldi's uniform for him (and receives a needling in kind). Callenn, a new Minbari arrival, has come to take Delenn back to her home world to undergo the Dreaming, a ceremony which reveals a pivotal moment of a person's past, a glimpse at their soul. Delenn is reluctant to reveal to Sheridan that the results of the Dreaming may require her to stay on Minbar forever.

Racing Mars / season 4 - episode 10
Written by: J. Michael Straczynski
Directed by: Jesus Trevino
Music by: Christopher Franke
Sheridan, having seen ISN run Garibaldi's incriminating interview again and again, decides to take the matter up with Garibaldi personally. The discussion turns into an argument and then comes to blows, and Sheridan threatens to have his former security chief put off the station - or worse. A shady character named Wade introduces himself to Garibaldi, trying to convince him that Sheridan needs to be stopped, but despite his argument with the captain, Garibaldi doesn't feel the need to sell anyone out.

Lines of Communication / season 4 - episode 11
Written by: J. Michael Straczynski
Directed by: John C. Flinn III
Music by: Christopher Franke
Delenn is alarmed by the arrival of an emissary from Minbar who warns her of impending civil war on her home world. She sets out on a journey back home to try to quell the impending conflict. With all supply lines to the station cut off, and ISN broadcasting the official propaganda line that Babylon 5 is the staging ground for the subversion of Earth, Sheridan tries to come up with a way to fight the hail of lies being fed to the general populace.

Conflicts of Interest / season 4 - episode 12
Written by: J. Michael Straczynski
Directed by: David J. Eagle
Music by: Christopher Franke
Preparations are under way for the first "Voice of the Resistance" broadcast from B5, but the one thing no one has been able to figure out is how to get the signal from the station to anywhere outside of the sector. Franklin, having just returned from Mars, suggests using the almost limitless power at Draal's disposal on Epsilon 3.

Rumors, Bargains and Lies / season 4 - episode 13
Written by: J. Michael Straczynski
Directed by: Mike Vejar
Music by: Christopher Franke
Londo and G'Kar are persuaded by Sheridan to permit the White Star fleet to patrol their borders. Fearing that the leaders of the non-aligned worlds will balk at the idea of his fleet flying along their territory, Sheridan concocts a convoluted scheme to hint at suspicious happenings along the aliens' borders but withholding his help until it is requested.

Moments of Transition / season 4 - episode 14
Written by: J. Michael Straczynski
Directed by: Tony Dow
Music by: Christopher Franke
On Minbar, the warrior caste stoops to treacherous new lows as Delenn receives the news that Shakiri, the warrior leader, will openly attack the capitol of Minbar and its population unless the religious caste offers its immediate surrender. On B5, Lyta finds herself at a disadvantage since she has gone on the run from Psi Corps. Potential clients who need a telepath to perform even the most routine duties will not accept the services of a known renegade.

No Surrender, No Retreat / season 4 - episode 15
Written by: J. Michael Straczynski
Directed by: Mike Vejar
Music by: Christopher Franke
Earthforce ships have blockaded the colony of Proxima 3, which seceded from the Earth Alliance shortly before Babylon 5 declared independence. When the blockade threatens to starve out the residents of Proxima 3, Sheridan hurriedly asks the League of Non-Aligned Worlds to support Babylon 5 instead of Earth and then sets out to attack the flotilla of Earth Force destroyers at Proxima 3.

The Exercise of Vital Powers / season 4 - episode 16
Written by: J. Michael Straczynski
Directed by: John Lafia
Music by: Christopher Franke
Garibaldi returns to Mars to meet his new employer, pharmaceutical baron William Edgars. Lise is worried about Garibaldi's presence on Mars, but his business is with Edgars. Edgars subjects Garibaldi to an unexpected loyalty screening using a telepath, making Garibaldi even edgier about his new boss. On the station, Franklin is racing the clock to revive the telepaths victimized by Shadow technology, but can't seem to break through the Shadows' defense systems until Lyta visits medlab and scans one of the victims, reviving him harmlessly for a short while.

The Face of the Enemy / season 4 - episode 17
Written by: J. Michael Straczynski
Directed by: Mike Vejar
Music by: Christopher Franke
More and more Earth ships switch sides to join Sheridan's fleet, including his old command, the Agammemnon. While visiting his old ship, Sheridan receives a call from Garibaldi, a warning that Sheridan's father has been seized and taken into custody, and an offer of help. Against the advice of Ivanova, his former first officer on the Agammemnon, and probably even his own common sense, Sheridan agrees to Garibaldi's terms to come to Mars, alone, only to find that it's a trap.

Intersections in Real Time / season 4 - episode 18
Written by: J. Michael Straczynski
Directed by: John Lafia
Music by: Christopher Franke
Sheridan's interrogation begins, conducted by a man named William who has the options to call in guards, inflict pain through Narn pain-givers Sheridan is forced to wear, or otherwise use whatever means are necessary to break the captain and force a confession that his secession of Babylon 5 from Earth was committed under alien influence. William begins to disorient Sheridan's concepts of time and truth and trust...or perhaps not.

Between the Darkness and the Light / season 4 - episode 19
Written by: J. Michael Straczynski
Directed by: David Eagle
Music by: Christopher Franke
As Sheridan's interrogation continues, Garibaldi makes his way to the Mars resistance base, trying to convince them that contrary to the ISN reports, he was brainwashed by Bester into betraying the resistance and handing Sheridan over to the authorities. But with tensions running high among the rebels, they simply take Garibaldi hostage until Lyta scans him, proving that his claims about mind alteration are true. Garibaldi, Franklin and Lyta slip into the facility where Sheridan is being held, and Garibaldi uses his newfound popularity among Earthforce loyalists to gain access to the captain, though force is needed to break him out.

Endgame / season 4 - episode 20
Written by: J. Michael Straczynski
Directed by: John Copeland
Music by: Christopher Franke
Sheridan's plan for the frozen telepaths ("Ship of Tears" ) was to smuggle them onto as many Earth warships as possible and activate them. The telepaths would wake up and merge with the ships' computer systems, making the ships unable to maneuver or attack and thus removing the need for Sheridan's forces to destroy them.

Rising Star / season 4 - episode 21
Written by: J. Michael Straczynski
Directed by: Tony Dow
Music by: Christopher Franke
Delenn has overseen the coming together of the nonaligned worlds, the Centauri, the Minbari, the Narn, and Earth into a new Interstellar Alliance, and Sheridan has been elected its first president. The Alliance, which among other things promises to share advanced technologies like artificial gravity with Earth, is a confederation whose members retain most of their sovereignty, aside from certain rules of conduct.

The Deconstruction of Falling Stars / season 4 - episode 22
Written by: J. Michael Straczynski
Directed by: Stephen Furst
Music by: Christopher Franke
The fourth season finale. A look back at the impact of Babylon 5 from 100, 500, 1000, and 1000000 years in the future.
Some people on Earth are highly skeptical that the Interstellar Alliance will work, and distrust Sheridan's motives and ability. The station will be under the command of a Captain Lochley in 2262. With Sheridan's permission, a colony of telepaths will be established on Babylon 5 sometime in 2262. Eventually they will turn against him.

Azzar just said: I just rewatched 'The Fall of Night' and, frankly, Sheridan is so biased towards the Narns that he acts like a complete SOB. What he should have done was to give custody of the Narn ship. That was his duty as an officer and as a human being. Unless, of course, he actively WISHED to destroy the Centauri cruiser. Given his extreme smugness and self-righteousness in this episode, I wouldn't put it past him. After all, when the Centauri cruiser accepted to let the Narns pass in a previous episode, and the Centauri were attacked, Sheridan pretty much sat on his hands and didn't do a thing.
