Keeping Up Appearances season 5The fifth season on DVD? check here: The fifth season episode guideThe Senior Citizens' Outing / season 5 - episode 1 Hyacinth (Patricia Routledge) volunteers her services to assist with an outing to the coast which the Vicar is organizing for the old folk. However, she has under-estimated the problems - which include a lady who suffers from travel sickness and a romantically inclined Italian pensioner who sets his cap at Hyacinth and chases her all round the fun fair.
The Mayor's Fancy Dress Ball / season 5 - episode 2 Hyacinth (Patricia Routledge) is very put out when she and Richard (Clive Swift) don't receive their invitation to the Mayor's annual fancy dress ball nd insists that Richard - who now, of course, no longer works for the Council - does something about this obvious 'oversight'. He manages to arrange invitations by Hyacinth's nose is put very much out of joint when they turn up on the night and she discovers that her costume is not as unique as she had expected.
Hyacinth is Alarmed / season 5 - episode 3 Hyacinth (Patricia Routledge) is in a sunny disposition, which mystifies Richard (Clive Swift). Richard forgets their wedding anniversary but manages to get away with it by telling Hyacinth that he as planning to have a security system fitted as a special surprise. She is thrilled until a few days later Richard accidentally sets off the alarm himself because he couldn't remember the code Hyacinth had given the installers - which was the date of their wedding anniversary!
A Riverside Picnic / season 5 - episode 4 While walking by an idyllic riverbank with Richard (Clive Swift), Hyacinth (Patricia Routledge) comes up with one of her most ambitious plans. "I shall hold a riverside picnic equally as graceful as one of my candlelight suppers."
Skis / season 5 - episode 5 Hyacinth (Patricia Routledge) has decided instead of her usual gift to Richard (Clive Swift) of slippers that he should received skis instead. When Richard protests that he has not intention of taking up the sport, Hyacinth responds that he can cultivate the correct image by strapping them atop the car and drive about with them occasionally.
The Country House Sale / season 5 - episode 6 Richard (Clive Swift) is worried that Hyacinth's attendance at an exclusive auction is going to cost him a lot of money. Daisy (Judy Cornwell) and Rose meet a woman who claims that their father has promised to marry her. Hyacinth is most excited about attending a country house sale and "mingling with the aristocracy." Richard immediately loses sleep at the prospect of Hyacinth (Patricia Routledge) in a position to easily go well beyond their spending limits.
The Boy Friend / season 5 - episode 7 Hyacinth (Patricia Routledge) hears about Emmet's plans to do a production of 'The Boy Friend' and is most anxious to get herself a part. However, her plans have to be put on hold when she learns that Daddy is 'on guard' at Onslow (Geoffrey Hughes) and Daisy's (Judy Cornwell) and won't let them into the house. Convinced that Emmet is too overawed by her personality to invite her to join the cast of a musical, Hyacinth invites Elizabeth and him for coffee. She then bursts into impromptu snatches of 1920s musicals.
A Barbecue at Violet's / season 5 - episode 8 Still attempting to fulfill her desire to appear in 'The Boy Friend' Hyacinth (Patricia Routledge) makes her way to the Church hall where Emmet is rehearsing in order to offer her services but he manages to escape. She then has everyone over to a 'luxury barbecue' at Violet's but has problems because the incessant rowing between Violet and Bruce is difficult to ignore and is in grave danger of being picked up by the guests. A sing song almost succeeds in solving this problem until the barbecue gets out of control.
The Rolls Royce / season 5 - episode 9 Having seen an acquaintance driving a new Mercedes Hyacinth (Patricia Routledge) 'borrows' a Rolls Royce to be seen going one better. She even makes Richard (Clive Swift) drive her to a smart hotel but, unfortunately Onslow (Geoffrey Hughes), Daisy (Judy Cornwell) and Rose also turn up and let the side down and then, as they begin driving away, the police arrive and arrest them because the car showrooms have reported the Rolls as stolen.
The Hostess / season 5 - episode 10 Hyacinth (Patricia Routledge) decides to share her undoubted experience of being a perfect hostess and advertises in the local paper. Hyacinth may yet become the Barbara Cortland of the West Midland social scene. She aims to advise and educate the nation on gracious living, lit incandescently by their own candlelight suppers. Unfortunately for her, the response to her advert is not quite what she expected.
The Pageant / Special Hyacinth (Patricia Routledge) takes it upon herself to organize a pageant in the Church Hall titled "Our Town in the Civil War", seeing herself, of course, as a royal historical figure. When the flood of volunteers she was expecting for the pageant fail to turn up she has to rope Violet, Bruce and - in desperation - Onslow (Geoffrey Hughes), Daisy (Judy Cornwell) and Rose. Unfortunately Elizabeth is not very good when it comes to stage management and some scenery falls on Hyacinth whilst she is posing on her throne.
