Elmo: Elmo in Grouchland (Sing and Play)

get this episode on: DVD click here / VHS click here

This 45-minute short contains Sesame Street songs from the old days right up to the 1999 theatrical feature The Adventures of Elmo (Elmo) in Grouchland. Elmo hosts this companion piece to the theatrical film. However, the final product should put a smile on the faces of Elmo fans. Besides the songs from the movie, the Sesame Street gang sings (and words appear for the audience) pop tunes ("Sing") and classic songs from the show ("C is for Cookie (Cookie Monster)," "Rubber Ducky"). The tape also contains an extended segment of Sesame Street in which Elmo learns all about bouncing balls.

Elmo: Elmo Saves Christmas

The show opens on a Christmas scene, featuring Maya Angelou explaining to Muppet characters how Elmo (Elmo) once got his wish that every day could be Christmas, and soon regretted it. Charles Durning and Harvey Fierstein are also on board, and there's a new friend in Lightning the reindeer, plus lots of songs. The whooshing Christmas-season feel to the story is infectious.

A Halloween treat. Elmo (Elmo) visits fellow Sesame Street Muppet the Count in the latter's castle, and gets scared for a moment. But only a moment, as more friends from the television program show up, and jokes, songs, and surprises abound. Among the clever tunes: "Transylvania 1-2-3-4-5," "We Are All Monsters," and "Frazzle."

Elmo: Elmo Visits the Firehouse

After a fire on Sesame Street gives Elmo (Elmo) a scare, he and Maria visit a real New York City firehouse. Finding out about all the protective clothes firefighters wear and practicing how to "Get Low and Go" helps Elmo feel safe again. And he even gets to slide down a real fire pole! Then a special Elmo’s World all about Firefighters helps kids understand much more about what to do if there is a fire.

With an emphasis on the good feelings that go with fitness, this program is set at Elmo's (Elmo) exercise camp and features kids and Muppets bending, stretching, and generally getting more fit. Cyndi Lauper is the appealing guest star, the banter between Muppets is funny, and songs include "Workout in a Chair" and "Do the Benny Hop."

Basically, this is a collection of songs from 30 years of Sesame Street, in which sweet Elmo (Elmo) and his Muppet pals are joined by David Alan Grier, Jon Stewart, Gloria Estefan, the Fugees, Shawn Colvin, and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Grier (of the comically sour face) and Stewart (of the ironic smile) provide some funny stuff, and the Muppets share songs with the musical guests. This nonstop revue is a blast for parents as well as little ones.

Elmo: Elmo's Magic Cookbook

get this episode on: DVD click here / VHS click here

The irrepressible little red star of Sesame Street sizzles in Elmo's (Elmo) Magic Cookbook, but he's not the only celebrity to wave a wooden spoon here. It all begins when the tummy-rumble-inducing book the tape takes its title from is dusted off from its attic-dwelling days. First, it "alakazams" Jean, the ingredient-providing Julia Child of genies, onto Sesame Street for a primer on churning out a champion batch of ice cream (and one that, in one of a number of characteristically superb running gags, nearly causes Telly to collapse from arm fatigue), and then bam!--everybody's favorite Crescent City culinary whiz comes by to create the perfect pizza with the gang. Chef Emeril Legasse does one better than sprinkle the parmesan and pile on the pepperoni with expected panache--he also peels away the mystery of where cheese comes from. When Legasse leaves on a minestrone emergency, another apron-ready star steps in. This time it's singer Heather Headly, here known as Pocket Queen. Elmo, no dummy, is at first resistant to the queen's suggestion that together they cook up some pockets. When she takes him on a video tour of pocket-eating cultures, however (think China's dim sum), he warms to the idea, and what results is a scrumptious-looking summer roll. Each of the video's cooking segments is intercut with food-related bits from the show, Grover's hilarious gig as a hopeless waiter is one. In addition to a handful of recipes ripe for kid collaboration, this tape serves up customary Sesame-style excellence. No future foodie's video shelf should be without it.

Our 18 month old daughter, who would happily watch Elmo (Elmo) talk for two hours about income tax returns, thinks this video is just great! It has music, kids, Elmo, food, Elmo . . . in short, she stares at the TV during the entire thing, with the awed silence of the true Elmophile. However, I find it a little tedious. This is definitely one of those "Okay, Mommy's going into the other room now . . ." tapes. So just for all you parents out there who care how YOU'LL like the video, here's my two cents. For one thing, cooking is a subject that not all kids are going to take to. I suppose the idea behind the tape is that kids should learn that they CAN cook (with help). The treats Elmo and his friends prepare include kid favorites like pizza and ice cream. But some kids probably just want to eat these things, and couldn't care less about how to make them. They might find the tape a little dull. Also, the kids on this tape are just adorable, but a little older than the usual Sesame Street crowd (I'm guessing they're about 7 or 8). Obviously, they needed kids who were capable of doing the cooking-related tasks on the video, which leads me to believe that three or four year olds might not be able to "cook" as well as Elmo and his friends do here. But slightly older kids who wish they were Emeril and haven't outgrown Sesame Street are a perfect audience! The musical numbers here are a bit grating, but not as bad as all that. If you can get over the annoying voice of the Genie character who helps our friends in the kitchen, and ignore the unfunny food puns, you'll get to see Emeril give a brief lesson in pizza-making. To me, it looks like he'd rather be somewhere else, but maybe this is his usual expression. The kids do get to "bam" toppings on the pizza, by the way. The highlight of the video comes toward the very end, when the "Pocket Queen" (who writes this stuff?) teaches Elmo about pocket-shaped food. Her song about taking a chance and giving new things a try is great! Very pretty duet with Elmo, and a nice message to boot. I can forgive this tape its flaws for this wonderful two minutes.

Elmo: Elmo's Sing-Along Guessing Game

Don't miss the musical fun and excitement when Elmo (Elmo) hosts his very own TV game show. Elmo asks the questions, and you can guess the answers in sing-along videos featuring some of your favorite songs. Elmo: Elmo's World - Babies, Dogs & More!

get this episode on: DVD click here / VHS click here

Sesame Street's cheerful redhead chuckles his way through this delightful 50-minute compilation of three favorite "Elmo's World" episodes. First come the babies: real babies, Muppet babies, and animal babies. With help from Mister Noodle, a cast of Muppets, and video vignettes featuring humans, Elmo (Elmo) discovers what babies can do and how to play with them. Next come the dogs. Once again, Elmo's on the move, this time to share important tips about respecting the family pet. The final episode examines life on the farm. Viewers will observe youngsters accomplishing daily farm chores as well as Muppet farmers and barn animals punning around. As Elmo bops around his house (simply drawn and "furnished" with color crayon sketches), he chats with Dorothy the pet goldfish, poses questions to Mister Noodle, and tunes in to his friendly television for helpful cartoons presented by "The Baby Channel," "The Dog Channel," and of course, "The Farm Channel." Educational and entertaining for the younger crowd, each segment explores its topic using a variety of creative, quick-paced methods, enhanced by an upbeat soundtrack. (Ages 3 to 6)

Elmo: Elmo's World - Birthdays, Games & More

While it's true that Elmo's World is one that most 2- to 5-year-olds wouldn't mind waking up to any day of the week, Birthdays, Games & More makes plain that, as far as preschool meccas go, this is as good as it gets. Here, the furry little red guy gets the festivities under way watching real, live kid friends festoon pretty packages with colorful bows (his way of answering the endlessly curious Dorothy's question about how to wrap a present) before tuning into the Birthday Channel for a whirlwind trip to Mexico, where ebullient kids whack away at a piñata, and Israel, where a dizzy gang dips to the ground, doing its best to put on hats sans hands. After a chat with a talking birthday cake, it's game time. A chubby baby gets his toes tweaked in a round of "This Little Piggy"; Ernie (Ernie) and his ducky stop by via e-mail to demonstrate hide-and-go-squeak; and a couple of kids crack Elmo (Elmo) up with their search for Thumbkin, first in English, then in Spanish. The games give way, in a third segment, to a pack of pets. Mr. Noodle the lovable numbskull tries to play fetch with a fish; Elmo's tricky drawer trots out a parade of lettuce, a tiger, and a Telly monster, hoping for some help with the question "What can be a pet and what can't?"; and friend Alisa shows off Fluffy, her cat, and dog Spike. Taken together, Birthdays, Games & More is 60 minutes of playful, furry fun destined to be dusted off for repeat watchings by all wannabe Elmo's World inhabitants.

Elmo: Elmo's World - Dancing Music Books

get this episode on: DVD click here / VHS click here

Everyone's favorite preschool monster demonstrates three activities in this compilation of some popular "Elmo's World" segments from Sesame Street. Joining him are segment regulars Dorothy the pet goldfish and Mr. Noodle, the lovable, bumbling adult stand-in for children, who makes mistakes but perseveres until he gets it right. In each episode, real children also take turns mastering the skill. In "Dancing," Elmo (Elmo) shows off his finesse at the flamenco and hula, while the children choose more free-form moves. (Elmo's monster friend Zoe also makes a cameo appearance.) In "Books," a boy and his father visit the library in search of dinosaur books. And in "Music," kids play the flute and violin, while Mr. Noodle is a little slow in learning to bang the drum. For parents who meant to tape the "Elmo's World" segments, but never quite did it, this 45-minute video is a lucky break. Primarily for ages 2-5, but Elmo fans of all ages will enjoy it.

I have a set of 21 month old twin girls. They absolutly LOVE Elmo (Elmo) and his videos. I think they're great because of what Elmo teaches. My girls follow along with Elmo through the entire show, and I get a break :). I am going to get as much as I can for the ENTIRE collection of Elmo's World, and some other vidoes Elmo is in (Elmo visits the Firehouse, etc). I would recommend this to anyone who has Toddlers!

Elmo: Families, Mail, & Bath Time

What is the Noodl's family dance? Can you guess what Cookie Monster (Cookie Monster) gets in the mail? How many bubbles are in a whale's bath? Discover the answers to these questions and more with Elmo (Elmo) and friends as they explore Families, Mail and Bath Time in three exciting new episodes. Elmo's World gives preschoolers the opportunity to learn about the world around him through songs, stories and guessing games! The Oinker Sisters sing a pig diddy, Elmo gets a special delivery and Ernie (Ernie) serenades Rubber Duckie in the tub! New dances, silly music and good friends from Sesame Street make it a must-see!

Elmo: Elmo's World - Flowers, Bananas & More

get this episode on: DVD click here / VHS click here

Flowers, Bananas & More, so titled, presumably, because Flowers, Bananas & Hair sounds kind of yucky, culls everybody's favorite 3-year-old monster's investigations of those things in a 50-minute tape. The Flowers episode cuts away from Elmo's crayon-filled playroom to follow a real, live boy in his quest to grow a plant. Through Elmo's lively voiceover, we learn that by filling a glass with a paper towel, a bean, and some water you can grow a bean pod, which is just what Elmo (Elmo) does, along with interviewing a friendly cactus and showing us a homemade video of Stinky the Plant, back in his world. In Bananas Mr. Noodle's usual bumbling with the object in question (Is it a telephone? A horn? A pen?) is a barrel of laughs, and we meet Top Banana, a spectacles- and bow tie-clad chap who brings his breed's health benefits to light. Hair, the final segment, is especially enlightening because every manner of the curious stuff shows up for a brief but thoughtful examination. By tuning us in to the Hair Channel, which is featuring a cartoon called "The Kingdom Where Everybody Wore His Hair the Same Way," Elmo leads us to the truth about hair: kinky or straight, short or long, everybody's got it, and what a person chooses to do with it doesn't count for much. Though it's bound to be a repeat for most kids, this is a tape that'll grow on budding botanists, stylists, and Elmo groupies in general. (Ages 3 to 7.)

Elmo: Elmo's World - Happy Holidays

In the first-ever "Elmo's World" holiday special, Elmo (Elmo) is gearing up to celebrate Christmas. But what present will he give Dorothy, his beloved goldfish? As he searches for an answer, Elmo learns about holidays around the world and discovers the many things that Christmas, Chanukah and Kwanzaa have in common. Finally, Elmo goes to the North Pole, where Santa has some expert advice about the true spirit of Chirstmas - and the perfect gift for Dorothy!

Elmo: Elmo's World - Head to Toe With Elmo

get this episode on: DVD click here / VHS click here

Certainly not the preschooler's body-part primer implied by its title, Head to Toe with Elmo (Elmo) simply unfolds the great mysteries of jackets, hats, and shoes. This combo induces plenty of chuckles for Elmo, the scruffy red-furred host who loves interviewing kids, babies, talking clothing, and his (real) pet goldfish. As little Elmo flits about his crayon-scribbled environs, he poses lots of questions to preschoolers at home: "How do you put on your jacket?" "Who wears hats and who doesn't?" and "What do shoes do when nobody is wearing them?" Plucked directly from the highly acclaimed Sesame Street show, each 15-minute segment features a fast-paced blend of video vignettes, goofy Mr. Noodle encounters, Elmo's own purposefully amateur home movies, and laughs for the grownups who might be watching. Not to say Elmo's jokes always fly, but kids can't seem to get enough of this wholesome, curious, and informative critter.

Elmo: Elmo's World - Springtime Fun

The endearing, red-mopped Muppet is back for a romp through spring, offering preschoolers a potpourri of animated and live-action snippets showcasing seasonal favorites: birds, bugs, and bicycles. Elmo (Elmo), the host of this vintage Sesame Street program, chats gaily while ushering in familiar guests Prairie Dawn, Ernie (Ernie) and Bert (Bert), and Grover during three 15-minute "chapters." Tongue-in-cheek spoofs ("The Loon Ranger," "The Dick Van Bike Show") are blended with general zaniness (think Mr. Noodle) to keep youngsters laughing as they learn. Catering to a child's short attention span, the fast-paced medley includes interactive games, sing-alongs, and engaging film of kids and critters. Especially heartwarming is footage of ducklings hatching and helmet-clad children pedaling without training wheels. In an effort to stay timely, Elmo's World charms its computer-savvy audience with references to the World Wide Web and "You've Got Mail," but there's no need: everyone knows Elmo is timeless.

I was thinking when I saw it on the network, that they were going to be showing a lot of history from Sesame Street. Elmo's World pretty much takes over a lot of the show and you only see very very short clips with Elmo (Elmo) riding in a taxi cab. They have some clips that some may remember growing up for representing the number of the day, which is 10. They have very short clips at the ending that show the years of Sesame Street that some may remember. Like when Mr. Hooper died, when Snuffy became real, and the Hurricane on Sesame Street. I have nothing against the little red monster, but I was expecting a little bit more history, and a little less Elmo. When I was growing up, Big Bird (Big Bird) and Oscar (Oscar the Grouch) and Mister Snuffleupagus were the stars. May Sesame Street have many more years to come.

Elmo: Sesame Street Presents Elmo's Musical Adv. - Peter & The Wolf

get this episode on: DVD click here / VHS click here

Tag along for Elmo's musical adventure with Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf and prepare to strike an unlikely pose, with one foot planted in the friendliest, furriest neighborhood anybody knows and the other in a sophisticated, sonically souped-up concert arena--Boston's Symphony Hall. The video unites the two seemingly mismatched worlds seamlessly, pulling off its unstated but pretty obvious goal, which is to siphon off the classical genre's outermost layer of stuffiness to make it more accessible to little kids, with Sesame-style punch and simplicity. Baby Bear leads viewers into Peter's forest by way of his ticket to see the Boston Pops Orchestra. Backstage he meets conductor Keith Lockhart, who serves as tour guide for a thorough but breezy showcase of various instruments, allowing the lisping little bear to get a grip on which sound portrays which character. Happy-go-lucky Peter, played by a peasant-costumed Elmo (Elmo), is center stage during violin solos; the scary-sounding French horn signals the approach of the wolf, normally a ferocious fellow, but in this case a harmless furry purple guy. These days, with the gospel about the benefits of music education spreading at fever pitch, this 45-minute gem could be promoted as a way to get preschoolers in on the action. Beyond that, it's a charming chucklefest that's as effective as any intro you'll find to the classic tale. Elmo tickles audiences of all ages as Peter, and Big Bird (Big Bird), with help from the bassoon, spreads his wings in the role of the brave but foolhardy boy's grandfather.

Elmo: The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland

Welcome to Grouchland, U.S.A., place of a thousand stenches. This is where everyone's favorite red monster winds up when he stars in his first feature film, The Adventures of Elmo (Elmo) in Grouchland. Elmo learns a lesson when he refuses to share his blanket with his best friend, Zoe, then loses it in Oscar's (Oscar the Grouch) can, where it goes all the way to Grouchland. There the beloved blanket winds up in the clutches of the greediest man alive, Huxley (played by Mandy Patinkin), and Elmo has to venture alone to Huxley's lair to get it back. The Sesame Street gang follows Elmo but ends up in the Grouchland jail. Fortunately, whenever things start looking too bleak, our hosts Ernie (Ernie) and Bert (Bert) stop the film and offer reassurance. There are also numerous opportunities for audience participation (canned kids' voices will prevent parents from feeling too silly when viewing at home). This 73-minute film has plenty to entertain the youngsters as well as details and inside jokes for parents. And of course there are marvelous animated effects, although seeing Elmo dance in 1999 isn't quite as remarkable as it was to see Kermit ride a bicycle in 1977's The Muppet Movie. The songs are fun and bouncy, and veteran performers Patinkin and Vanessa Williams (as the Queen of Trash) contribute their exceptional talent. The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland was conceived as a film kids could see in theaters; in the safe environs of home, it's good fun for anyone over the age of 2, or even younger in small doses.

These are two videos that were recently made. The first one is a good holloween video w/ some great skits w/ the count and the other one highlights the actions of a particular episode with oscar's (Oscar the Grouch) worm, slimey. While these videos r pretty good and r at a exellent price I still wish that there were more videos of classic sesame street. Back when the show was truly ground breaking and had the true master behind the scenes. Until that happens these r still 2 exellent videos of a show that will be around for ever.

Ken just said: What is Mister Snuffleupagus' first name?
Bob writes: I'm wondering if anyone remembers this classical instrumental and film that is from 1970's (I think) Sesame street. I remember watching it many times in the mid-1980's then it was never aired again. The real-world film clip features (to the best I can recall) statues, totem poles, and waterspouts of some sort in a city park with a classical waltz-like tune. If it helps, for the musically-inclined, the instrumental that backs it is in the key of "F", with bells and trumpets playing the notes C-A-C-D-A#-D-E-C-E-D-C-A#-C over and over again. I know it's a classical waltz but can't find online anywhere. Thanks for any help on that song and film from my early years!
