After ending her relationship with Mr Big, Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) wonders, "What are the break-up rules?" While sorting out her feelings, she tries to take her mind off Mr Big by dating a new member of the Yankees. Meanwhile, Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) is annoyed by all the "man talk" she's been hearing, Samantha's (Kim Kattrall) not satisfied with her boyfriend's "shortcomings" and Charlotte's (Kristin Davis) boyfriend has a constant problem with crotch adjustment.

Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) invites Mr. Big to her birthday party; Samantha (Kim Kattrall) struggles to tell her boyfriend about his shortcomings; Charlotte (Kristin Davis) gets a puppy as a "man replacement"; and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) musters up the courage to talk dirty with her lover until she says something a little too revealing.

Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) goes on dates with 'the man with no soul', 'the man with two faces' and 'the man who steals cheap used books for no reason.' Samantha (Kim Kattrall) see's a lady she knows who's had plastic surgery and considers it for herself. Carrie goes on a 'non-date' and sets up Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) with who turns out to be 'Manhatten guy'.

The ladies go to a club and Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) ends up being late for a photo shoot. Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) meets up with an ex who she faked an orgasm for and does it again to save him disapointment. Carrie's (Sarah Jessica Parker) magazine comes out but the front cover is a test shot of her with no make up and hungover. Samantha (Kim Kattrall) is taken in by a man who uses the 'we' word and Miranda tells her shed faked it and decides to help him please her. Carrie goes out and is recognised from the cover and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) tries to make a relationship with her out-of-work-actor handyman friend but it fails so he moves to Salt Lake City for a job.

Samantha (Kim Kattrall) is exiled from Manhattan's social scene after trying to seduce a celebutante's husband, while Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) starts having panic attacks after buying her own apartment.

Samantha (Kim Kattrall) meets an older millionaire while drinking after work. Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) drops Miranda for Big and she ends up meeting a cute bartender, Steve and ends up sleeping with him.

Can you change a man? Although Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) is happy with her relationship with Mr Big, she still tries to make slight alterations to some of his more annoying habits. Meanwhile, Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) experiences change first-hand when she begins to have scheduling problems in dating her bartender boyfriend, Charlotte (Kristin Davis) dates an uncircumcised man and Samantha (Kim Kattrall) bumps into an old boyfriend who's now a drag queen.

Charlotte (Kristin Davis) brings Stanford and Carrie to decide whether her man is gay or straight, and Samantha goes to far, only to be beaten to the mark.
