Fontana Producer: Gene Roddenberry Shortly after the captain of the Federation ship Antares drops off adolescent Charlie Evans on board the Enterprise, the Antares is mysteriously destroyed. Following other unexplained incidents, the blame falls on Charlie who reveals himself to have incredible telekinetic abilities to alter matter and cause people to "go away," i.e. vanish. Charlie, whose immaturity governs his actions, becomes an even more dangerous threat when he falls in love with Yeoman Janice Rand and will stop at nothing to get her to return his feelings.

Peeples Producer: Gene Roddenberry When the Enterprise encounters an energy force, Gary Mitchell exhibits enhanced mental capabilities and begins to think himself a god. Whilst the damaged Enterprise enters orbit around Delta Vega to attempt repairs, Kirk endeavors to maroon and then destroy Mitchell.
The Naked Time / season 1 - episode 4 Director: Marc Daniels Writer: John D. F. Black Producer: Gene Roddenberry Sent to pick up a research team, the Enterprise finds the scientists dead. One of the landing party brings the disease back to the crew, forcing suppressed emotions to surface. Sulu (George Takei) becomes a modern day D'Artagan. Lt. Kevin Riley shuts down the engines. Spock and Kirk are also affected. In one of the series most powerful scenes, they help each other overcome their inner fears. Kirk races against time before the ship is pulled into the disintegrating planet.
The Enemy Within / season 1 - episode 5 Director: Leo Penn Writer: Richard Matheson Producer: Gene Roddenberry A transporter malfunction splits Kirk into two beings: one pure evil and the other good. What follows is a battle between the two as each battle for supremacy at the expense of the other, though it becomes obvious that they need each other. Spock and Chief Engineer Scott attempt to devise a method of combining the two Kirks into one. Meanwhile, a landing team is trapped on the surface of Alpha 177 and sub-zero temperatures. The Enterprise cannot beam them aboard for fear that what happened to Kirk would happen to them as well.
Mudd's Women / season 1 - episode 6 Director: Harvey Hart Writer: Gene Roddenberry Producer: Gene Roddenberry In helping a doomed ship, the Enterprise beams aboard Harry Mudd and three delectable ladies. The effort of the rescue requires the Enterprise to replenish it's stock of Dilithium Crystals. The three ladies are intended as wives for miners. Kirk finds himself having to trade the women for crystals...and with the additional problem that "All that glitters is not gold".
What Are Little Girls Made Of? / season 1 - episode 7 Director: James Goldstone Writer: Robert Bloch Producer: Gene Roddenberry The Enterprise is assigned to discover what has become of Dr. Roger Korby (Michael Strong), the "Pasteur of Archeological Medicine". There's been no word from him for five years. When Korby is found living in the tunnels of a frozen planet, his fiancée Christine Chapel and Kirk beam down. They are horrified to learn that Korby has developed the ultimate android in hopes of populating the universe with them. To prove his theory sane, Korby manufactures an android Kirk - but not before the real Kirk programs it, warning Spock.
Miri / season 1 - episode 8 Director: Vincent McEveety Writer: Adrian Spies Producer: Gene L. Coon Investing an old style distress signal, Kirk, Spock, McCoy and a landing party beam down to a planet that's identical to Earth. They find a decaying 20th Century city inhabited only by "ancient children", diseased by a life-prolongation project that killed off the adults 300 years before. Aging imperceptibly, the children contract the disease when they reach puberty. Among the rubble, Kirk discovers Miri (Kim Darby), their only hope for survival, when they are all stricked with the still contagious plague.
Dagger of the Mind / season 1 - episode 9 Director: Vincent McEveety Writer: Shimon Wincelberg Producer: Gene Roddenberry When delivering supplies to a penal colony, an inmate escapes to the Enterprise and demands sanctuary. He is Dr. Simon Van Gelder (Morgan Woodword), assistant to the director of the colony, Dr. Adams (James Gregory). Answering questions causes great pain, but Van Gelder begs not to be returned and hints at horrors committed against patients by Dr. Adams. Kirk beams down to investigate while Spock tries to break through Van Gelder's agony. As a result, he is the first participant in a Vulcan Mind Meld.
The Corbomite Maneuver / season 1 - episode 10 Director: Joseph Sargent Writer: Jerry Sohl Producer: Gene Roddenberry While on a star charting mission, the Enterprise encounters a luminescent, radioactive cube. When Kirk is forced to destroy it, an enormous ship of pulsating lights appears, commanded by the ominous Balok (Clint Howard). Balok condemns the Enterprise crew to death, and seeing no escape, Kirk chances a desperate bluff. Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy (DeForest Kelley) debuts in this episode and the beloved triad of Kirk's leadership, Spock's (Leonard Nimoy) logic, and McCoy's humanity is now complete.
The Menagerie (1) / season 1 - episode 11 Writer: Gene Roddenberry Director: Marc Daniels Spock acts mysteriously when he kidnaps a former captain (Jeffrey Hunter) of the Enterprise and sets the ship's controls to a forbidden planet, resulting in Spock being put on trial for a court martial. This episode uses footage from the series pilot, titled "The Cage."
The Menagerie (2) / season 1 - episode 12 Writer: Gene Roddenberry Director: Marc Daniels In his defense, Spock uses the illusionary powers of Talosians to recall Captain Pike's original visit to Talos IV, almost 13 years ago. It was a surrealistic planet of mind games and mysticism inhabited by eerie telepathic creatures. Kirk is both stunned and amazed as he learns the story of Captain Pike's kidnapping and mental torture at the hands of the Talosians, and how even a young Spock and the original Enterprise crew could not save him! In the tension-filled climax, Kirk must decide to uphold Federation law ... or do what he knows is morally just!
The Conscience of the King / season 1 - episode 13 Director: Gerd Oswald Writer: Barry Trivers Producer: Gene L. Coon Mass murderer aboard the Enterprise! Kirk beams up Anton Karidian (Arnold Moss) and unknown to him, danger lurks in the corridors of the starship. Could Karidian be Kodos the Executioner, thought to have died 20 years ago? When Karidian's Shakesperean acting troupe performs, beware... the play's the thing! Watch closely for your only chance to see the Observation Deck; it's not seen in any other episode. And bid farewell to Lt. Kevin Riley in his last appearance in Star Trek.
Balance of Terror / season 1 - episode 14 Director: Vincent McEveety Writer: Paul Schneider Producer: Gene Roddenberry Federation outposts destroyed by Romulans! It's a game of cat and mouse for Kirk and the Romulan commander (Mark Lenard), whose cloaking device renders his ship invisible - and very deadly! Shore Leave / season 1 - episode 15 Director: Robert Sparr Writer: Theodore Sturgeon Producer: Gene L. Coon The White Rabbit and Alice in Wonderland? A knight on horseback? Don Juan, a Samurai warrior, a World War II fighter plane? These strange sights await Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise when they beam down for shore leave on a mysterious planet. Is it all an illusion or some sort of trick? So it would seem, until the knight charges Dr. McCoy - and kills him!
The Galileo Seven / season 1 - episode 16 Director: Robert Gist Writer: Oliver Crawford, S. Bar-David Producer: Gene L. Coon Spock learns the trials of command when Kirk sends him, along with Scotty, McCoy and a shuttlecraft crew, to investigate a quasar-like phenomenon. But the shuttlecraft is pulled off course and crash lands on an unknown planet. Enterprises sensors aren't working, and the High Commisioner orders Kirk to abandon the search and continue his mission to deliver urgently needed medical supplies. Can Spock save his crew before the planet's giant Neanderthal-like creatures kill them all?

Coon When the Enterprise visits Beta III to learn what happened to the U.S.S. Archon a century ago, Kirk and company find a planet of blissful people controlled by Landru, an omniscient ruler. Landru absorbed the Archons into the Body - a fate that awaits Kirk's crew unless he can find a way to destroy Landru. And he'd better hurry - the Enterprise is being pulled from orbit!
Space Seed / season 1 - episode 22 Director: Marc Daniels Writer: Carey Wilber, Gene L. Coon Producer: Gene L. Coon A race of superhumans, created by genetic-engineering experiments in the 1990s, are discovered drifting in space, frozen for 200 years. Ricardo Montalban plays Khan Noonian Singh, a role he reprised in the 1982 movie Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, which was based on this episode.
A Taste of Armageddon / season 1 - episode 23 Director: Joseph Pevney Writer: Gene L. Coon, Robert Hammer Producer: Gene L. Coon Kirk is warned not to approach Eminiar VII, but Ambassador Robert Fox (Gene Lyons) insists they continue on course to establish diplomatic contact. There, they learn that war has raged between Eminiar VII and nearby Vendicar for 500 years - a war fought by computers! Whenever a "hit" is proclaimed, citizens dutifully march to disintegration machines. When the computer declares the Enterprise "destroyed" Kirk and company are taken hostage, and ordered to face death!
This Side of Paradise / season 1 - episode 24 Director: Ralph Senensky Writer: Nathan Butler, D.C. Fontana On Omicron Seti III, the Enterprise discovers the colonists unaffected after three years' exposure to deadly Berthold rays. Spock is reunited with an old friend, Leila Katomi (Jill Ireland), who exposes him to strange spores causing Spock to release his emotions, and he promptly declares his love for her. The spores affect the entire Enterprise crew, which has been beamed down to the planet. Kirk, under the spores' influence, prepares to abandon ship. But, if he leaves, no one can beam back up!
The Devil in the Dark / season 1 - episode 25 Director: Joseph Pevney Writer: Gene L. Coon Producer: Gene L. Coon The Enterprise is summoned to investigate a deadly monster which is menacing the miners on Janus IV. Kirk discovers that a strange rock-like being called a Horta has been killing men, then escaping through solid rock! The Horta steals the air-circulation pump, threatening all with death. Kirk wounds the creature, but suddenly it corners him! Will Kirk become his next victim? And how can Spock survive a Vulcan mindmeld with this alien lifeform?
Errand of Mercy / season 1 - episode 26 Director: John Newland Writer: Gene L. Coon Producer: Gene L. Coon A peace-loving race gives Kirk a lesson in warfare when they hesitate to interfere in a skirmish between the Federation and Klingons that threatens their planet. John Colicos reprised his role as the Klingon Kor in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episodes "Blood Oath," "Once More Into the Breach" and "The Sword of Kahless."
The Alternative Factor / season 1 - episode 27 Director: Gerd Oswald Writer: Don Ingalls Producer: Gene L. Coon In orbit around an unknown planet, the Enterprise experiences a moment of "nonexistence" - all natural laws are suspended. On the planet's surface, Kirk encounters Lazarus (Robert Brown), who blames this disturbance on his evil enemy. Aboard the starship, Lazarus steals vital dilithium crystals, and we learn that Lazarus' look-alike foe is from an anti-matter universe. If Kirk can't prevent them from meeting, both universes will be annihilated!
The City on the Edge of Forever / season 1 - episode 28 Director: Joseph Pevney Writer: Harlan Ellison Producer: Gene L. Coon Accidentally overdosed with cordrazine, a delirious McCoy transports to the planet below. Kirk, Spock and a landing party discovers a "time portal" through which McCoy disappears! Suddenly the Enterprise vanishes, and Kirk and Spock must enter the vortex to search for McCoy. Arriving in 1930, Kirk falls deeply in love with Edison Keeler (Joan Collins), only to learn she must die in order for time to return to normal!
Operation: Annihilate! / season 1 - episode 29 Director: Herschel Daugherty Writer: Steven W. Carabatsos Producer: Gene L. Coon The Enterprise Arrives at Deneva, a planet in the path of an interplanetary epidemic of mass insanity. There, Kirk find his brother Sam dead, his sister-in-law stricken, and his nephew unconscious. Then, Spock is attacked by a flying creature!
