Fallen Angel / season 5 - episode 1

Joxer travels to Rome after he has nightmares about Xena and Gabrielle being in trouble. He meets Amarice and Eli and is devastated when he sees the bodies of Xena and Gabrielle hanging from crosses. Meanwhile, Xena and Gabrielle sit on the ledge of a cliff and are approached by millions of angels, who scoop them up and fly out over a monumental abyss. Suddenly, a pack of demons, led by a winged and cloven hooved Callisto, attack and Xena and Gabrielle plummet through the air.


Chakram / season 5 - episode 2

Joxer and Amarice stare in wonder as Xena and Gabrielle lock in an emotional embrace. Eli has done what seemed to be the impossible, raise them from the dead. Overjoyed, Amarice pulls the two broken halves of Xena's chakram out of her bag and Xena eyes them curiously. Meanwhile, Kal, a pagan god of war, sends the monk Kalib into the Chakram Chamber. Kalib finds himself surrounded by skeletal remains as he approaches the altar, which contains two interlocking circles. One of the circles is empty and the other holds a silver and white chakram.


Succession / season 5 - episode 3

After a rollicking roll in the sack, Mavican tells Ares that she wants to be his right-hand woman, just as Xena once was. Ares dismisses the idea and disappears. Meanwhile at Demeter's Temple, Gabrielle complains to herself that Xena is still overprotective of her. Suddenly, Mavican appears and throws a javelin towards Gabrielle's head. Xena arrives just in time to deflect the javelin and takes over the fight, which greatly upsets Gabrielle. Mavican, eager to prove to Ares that she can be Xena's successor, makes no secret of the fact that she intends to kill Xena.


Animal Attraction / season 5 - episode 4

Xena, Gabrielle, Joxer and Amarice are traveling down a wooded path. Gabrielle tries to point out to Xena the covert looks Joxer keeps giving her, but Xena, who is riding Argo, is fast asleep. Concerned, Gabrielle wakes her up and asks why she's been so tired lately. Suddenly, the group comes across a mare caught in a trap and they free the animal. Even though the horse is wild, Gabrielle wants to take it to the nearby town of Spamona to receive proper medical attention. Upon their arrival, they are greeted by Talia, the town sheriff who is an old friend of Xena's.


Them Bones, Them Bones / season 5 - episode 5

When Xena experiences sharp pains in her stomach, Gabrielle takes her to see a midwife. As the midwife examines her, a baby skeleton tears out of Xena's belly. Horrified, Xena screams and loses consciousness. Gabrielle calls out to Xena and she wakes up & it was only a nightmare. The midwife tells Xena that she needs bed rest, but Xena is convinced that someone is trying to kill her baby. She tells Gabrielle and Amarice that they are going to see Yakut, a shamaness and leader of the Northern Amazons.


Purity / season 5 - episode 6

Xena, Gabrielle and Joxer are awakened by a monk from the Xo monastery, who dies moments after delivering a letter stating "the hawk and the dove must become one with wisdom." Xena realizes that her spiritual mentor, Lao Ma, must have written the letter before her death and that "wisdom" refers to her book which teaches ways to obtain special powers. To unravel the mystery, Xena decides to return to the land of Chin with Gabrielle and Joxer, expecting to find the book in the Xo monastery where she left it.


Back in the Bottle / season 5 - episode 7

While Xena is trying to master Lao Ma's powers, she has a vision of K'ao Hsin, Gabrielle and a mysterious man being trapped by a group of soldiers armed with the explosive black powder. Xena decides to return to Chin with Gabrielle and Joxer to find out who else knows the secret of the black powder recipe, which should have died with Pao Ssu. The trouble is that Pao Ssu has joined her equally evil brother, Ming Tien, in the spirit world and through him, was able to communicate to Khan and his army of one hundred thousand men how to make the deadly powder.


Little Problems / season 5 - episode 8

When Xena stops a group of Tharon's thugs from stealing treasures from Aphrodite's temple, she sees a dying young girl named Daphne. Deeply moved by the child's plight, Xena remarks she would change places with her if she could. Aphrodite takes her at her word and morphs Xena's life force into Daphne. The only problem is that Aphrodite does not successfully complete the transfer and Daphne awakens to discover Xena is inside of her! Before Aphrodite can figure out how to undo her magic, Daphne's father, Galantis, arrives to take his daughter home.


Seeds of Faith / season 5 - episode 9

At a town meeting, Petracles preaches that it's time for the people to stop serving the gods. When a villager disagrees and pulls a knife on him, Xena's chakram sails in and cuts the scythe of another armed villager in half. But Xena's attempt to prevent violence against Petracles and his men is thwarted when an overprotective Gabrielle attacks another man in the group as he reaches into his pocket for a handkerchief.


Lyre, Lyre, Hearts on Fire / season 5 - episode 10
Written By: Adam Armus & Nora Kay Foster
Directed By: Mark Beesley
Just as Joxer is trying to wake up Gabrielle, Xena hears the sound of Terpsichore's lyre in the distance. The three rush to find Draco and his warriors about to do battle with Amoria and her Amazons over the Muse of Music's golden lyre. Draco, still under a love spell, shoots Gabrielle a lovesick smile as Xena yanks the instrument out of his hands. But when Amoria resumes taunting him, Draco lunges at her.


Punch Lines / season 5 - episode 11

Directed By: Garth Maxwell
While traveling across the countryside, Gabrielle challenges a very pregnant and somewhat cranky Xena to get through a whole day without losing her temper. Xena and Joxer head into town while Gabrielle goes to wash the horses. Much to her surprise, when she pours spring water over Argo, the horse shrinks to thirty-eight inches tall! Lachrymose, the god of despair who owns the creek, refuses to return Argo to original size unless Gabrielle can make him laugh.


God Fearing Child / season 5 - episode 12

In the temple of the fates, Zeus and Hera learn that their time of ruling over humanity will soon come to an end when a child who is not begotten by man is born. Having heard about Xena's pregnancy, Hercules arrives to congratulate her. Moments after their reunion, they are ambushed by Proxidicae, soldiers in Zeus' secret guard. Xena, Hercules and Gabrielle temporarily ward off the attackers, but know that Zeus won't be so easily defeated.


Eternal Bonds / season 5 - episode 13

Xena and Gabrielle ride Argo and Amber through a torrential storm caused by the gods angered by Zeus' murder. Just as a tornado bares down on them, a mysterious hooded figure points the way to a cave. Once inside, the girls discover Joxer and three Magi, who coincidentally were looking for Xena to congratulate her on her newborn. The Magi offer gifts to Eve who "ushers in a new world without gods." Xena and Gabrielle accept the gifts until the third Magi offers sacred laurel oil which Xena knows comes from the goddess Artemis.


Amphipolis Under Siege / season 5 - episode 14

Xena and Gabrielle thwart an attack by female archers on Amphipolis' border guards. Xena instantly blames Ares, but he tells her that Athena, who is also afraid of the gods' demise, is the perpetrator. Concerned for Amphipolis' safety, Xena and Gabrielle ride into town, unaware they are being surrounded by Athena's warriors. While Xena reunites with her mother Cyrene, Ares offers to assist Athena, but she declines his help. Later, Xena and Gabrielle rally the villagers to help protect Eve. Athena arrives and demands that Xena hand over the baby.


Married with Fishsticks / season 5 - episode 15

While Xena bathes in the lake, Gabrielle tries in vain to quiet Eve's cries. Despite Xena's reassurances, Gabrielle doubts her ability to be a good mother. At the pier, Discord and Aphrodite trade insults that escalate into a fireball fight. Having gone to town to find some baby food, Joxer and Gabrielle get caught in the middle of their fight and Gabrielle gets hit in the back of the head by a ship's boom and falls into the sea unconscious.


Lifeblood / season 5 - episode 16

Directed By: Paul Grinder
Gabrielle decides to give her Right of Caste in the Amazon tribe to Eve, which would make Eve an Amazon princess. Gabrielle, Xena and the baby travel to the Amazon village. They find the tribe mourning the loss of several Amazons, including Yakut, and planning to take revenge on the Samite nomads. During the funeral, Yakut's ghostly image appears to Xena and throws a fireball at her from the pyre that causes Xena to have disturbing visions.


Kindred Spirits / season 5 - episode 17

Directed By: Josh Becker
Gabrielle contemplates remaining Queen of the Amazons and asks Xena to settle down with her in the Amazon Village. Meanwhile, Joxer is caught peeking at a group of bathing Amazons and is brought before Gabrielle to face punishment. Xena and Gabrielle pretend not to know him and Joxer is put into the stocks to await judgment. Later, Xena and Gabrielle give sex advice to Rhea and Eris and announce they are considering staying, which disturbs Cyane, who would be Queen if Gabrielle left.


Antony & Cleopatra / season 5 - episode 18

Rome is on the brink of an all-out civil war. Marc Antony and Brutus are vying for power and each hopes to gain control of Cleopatra's navy. In her Egyptian palace, Cleopatra is taking a bath when she receives an urgent written message from Rome. An asp emerges as she unrolls the scroll and she is fatally bitten. As her life slips away, she scrawls a note to Xena. In another part of the world, Xena and Gabrielle read Cleopatra's note and set off for Egypt to find her assassin.


Looking Death in the Eye / season 5 - episode 19

Joxer, now in his early 60s, is overjoyed when he gets hold of the last scroll written by Gabrielle recounting her and Xena's battle against the gods to protect the life of Xena's daughter Eve. Excited about learning what really happened to his warrior pals, Joxer begins to read the story to his children. As the tale unfolds in flashback, Xena and Gabrielle are pursued by Hades and Athena, whom they fight before barely managing to escape.


Livia / season 5 - episode 20

A fearless Roman commander, Livia has teamed up with Ares to rid Rome of Eli's followers. Planning to name Livia his successor, the Roman Emperor Augustus visits Livia and expresses his concern over her brutal methods, which she casually dismisses. Meanwhile, Xena uses her chakram to chip away at her casket of ice and manages to free herself. She then breaks Gabrielle out of her tomb of ice and the two set out to find Eve. Upon their arrival in a small village at the foot of Mt. Etna, they learn that 25 years have passed and that they are presumed dead!


Eve / season 5 - episode 21

Gabrielle, Joxer, Virgil and a tormented Xena follow Livia's tracks. Xena isn't sure if any part of Eve still exists inside the vengeful Livia, but her friends reassure her that she shouldn't give up hope. Later, the group reaches a small peasant village that has been totally destroyed. Crucified villagers line the streets and Xena realizes that Livia is responsible. As a massive funeral pyre burns, Ares appears to Xena and demands that she have his child in exchange for his help to protect Eve. Xena spurns him, vowing she will do nothing to prevent the twilight of the gods.


Motherhood / season 5 - episode 22

Distraught with grief, Eve runs recklessly through the wilderness closely followed by Xena and Gabrielle. Although Gabrielle doesn't think she will ever be able to forgive Eve for killing Joxer, she agrees to help Xena reform her daughter. Meanwhile, when Ares tells the gods that Livia is really Eve, they decide to call upon the Furies for help. After Xena saves Eve from a group of angry Romans determined to exact revenge for the loss of their loved ones, the Furies begin to undermine Gabrielle's thoughts in an effort to turn her against Eve.
